General Practices

In addition to good working practices such as proper personal protection, safety consideration and following established policies and procedures surrounding bloodborne pathogens and OPIM, employees should be also ensure they are properly vaccinated and adhere to reporting requirements as much as possible to prevent exposure to other employees.

Vaccinations

Employees who may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens or OPIM should be vaccinated for the following diseases:

Hepatitis B (Employers must offer vaccination a new employee)
Rubella
Measles
Influenza
Tetanus-diphtheria
Polio vaccine
Varicella

Exposure Reporting

Proper exposure reporting, including an accurate description of the facts surrounding an incident are critical to prevention of another exposure incident. Employees should be sure to include as much detail as possible to questions provided in order to protect the safety and well-being of their fellow co-workers and to ensure an overall improvement in the process. Accurate reporting is not merely a requirement, it is the law!
